The 4 USCCA Universal Safety Rules
Safety is our absolute top priority. We strictly enforce the USCCA’s foundational safety rules at all times, without exception:
- Treat all firearms as if they are loaded. Always physically and visually check the status of your firearm every time you handle it.
- Never point the firearm at anything you are not willing to destroy. Maintain constant muzzle awareness and always keep your firearm pointed in a designated safe direction.
- Keep your finger off the trigger until you have made the decision to shoot. Rest your index finger high along the frame or slide of the firearm until you are on target.
- Know your target and understand what is beyond it. You are entirely responsible for every round fired.
🏫 In-Class Regulations
- No Live Ammunition: Absolutely no live ammunition is permitted in the classroom environment.
- Firearms Stay Cased: All firearms must remain unloaded and securely cased in your range bag until an instructor specifically directs you to uncase them.
- Stay Engaged: We cover critical legal, practical, and situational aspects of concealed carry. Please keep cell phones on silent to ensure a distraction-free environment.
- Open Dialogue: Ask questions! If you are unsure about a concept, stance, or grip technique, our instructors are here to guide you before we ever step foot on the range.
🎯 On the Range Rules
- Follow the RSO: The Range Safety Officer (RSO) is in absolute control of the range. Follow their commands immediately and without question.
- Eyes and Ears On: Proper ANSI-rated eye protection and hearing protection must be securely worn before crossing into the active range area.
- The Firing Line is Sacred: Never step in front of the firing line for any reason. If a target drops or an item falls forward, notify the RSO.
- Bench Discipline: Uncase and case your firearm only at the shooting booth, keeping the muzzle pointed directly downrange at all times. Load your firearm only when on the firing line and instructed to do so.
- Handling Malfunctions: If your gun malfunctions or you need assistance, keep the muzzle pointed safely downrange, keep your finger off the trigger, and raise your non-shooting hand to alert an instructor.
- “Cease Fire” Protocol: Anyone can call a “Cease Fire” if they spot a safety hazard. If you hear this command, stop shooting immediately, safely place your firearm on the bench, and take a step back from the firing line.
